The Goods Station in Polígono San Cibrao, key in the development of the most important business center in the province of Ourense.

Currently, the Polígono San Cibrao Businessmen Association is working actively in all areas for the installation of a Railway Freight Station on the City of Transport of the Polígono San Cibrao.

Polígono San Cibrao is located 10 km from Ourense, where, within a radius of only 2 kilometers, is the city’s business belt (Pereiro de Aguiar business park, and industrial parks Barreiros and Seixalbo).

The companies located in these industrial estates move more than 3 million tons of goods per year by road, equivalent to some 120,000 trucks .

As we know, the transfer of goods from road to rail is a priority objective of governments and of the EU itself due to energy and economic savings, less pollution, reduction of accidents or less occupation of the territory, among other reasons.

Reception of goods in Ourense

At present, the city of Ourense and its neighboring municipalities have three places for the movement of goods by rail.

Empalme station in the capital; the Polígono San Cibrao, where there is a derivation of the Zamora line that only the Coren company uses for the movement of feed; and the Taboadela station, where urban solid waste is handled and sent by train to Sogama and which is just over 3 km from Polígono San Cibrao.

90% of the province’s merchandise moves in the last two enclaves, one more piece of data that justifies the construction of a single station in the industrial area, which is where the vast majority of the goods arrive and leave from. goods.

On the other hand, only 10% of the goods move at the Empalme de Ourense station, although it occupies an area of 140,000 m 2 in the middle of the urban area, in the A Ponte neighborhood .

With the transfer of the Goods Station to the Industrial Estate, as proposed by the Employers’ Association, those 140,000 m 2 would be released for citizen use in a central neighborhood of the city with a lack of community services, In addition to cleaning up an area today degraded precisely by the transport of goods, especially cement.

Preliminary draft

Currently, there is already a blueprint for the construction of a new freight station in San Cibrao, commissioned by the Association of Entrepreneurs itself and raised from the optimization of existing resources .

It is located on land that borders the transport city, of 103,560 m 2 , to which 26,319 m 2 more would be added with this proposal.

It involves connecting two passing tracks and two dead tracks on both sides of an unloading platform and connected in turn to the track that connects the Taboadela station and the Coren terminal.

The estimate of the cost of this new terminal is 20.5 million euros .
